An Egg a Day Keeps Heart Disease Away

Love eggs? Well you're in luck. New evidence suggests that consuming one egg daily could be more than just healthy, it could be lifesaving.

Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death globally. In fact more people die annually from cardiovascular diseases than from any other cause.

It’s common knowledge that most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented by addressing issues such as tobacco use, unhealthy eating and obesity. But what isn’t common knowledge is that an egg a day could significantly reduce the risk too, compared to not eating any eggs at all.

This new information was found by researchers from China and the UK, who set out to examine the associations between egg consumption and cardiovascular disease, ischaemic heart disease, major coronary events, haemorrhagic stroke and ischaemic stroke.

As well as using previous data gathered, they also conducted another study where researchers focused on over 400,000 participants who were free of prior cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

They found that the participants who consumed an egg a day had a 26% lower risk of haemorrhagic stroke, a 28% lower risk of haemorrhagic stroke death, and an 18% lower risk of cardiovascular death.

Although it was just an observational study, the results speak for themselves.

Apples, you’re out. Eggs, you’re in.
